A very interesting question I came across today:

A pendulum in a clock is a uniform brass rod. As with any metallic body it expands with increasing temperature. The rod will expand by a fraction αδT where α is a known constant (coefficient of linear thermal expansion).

What is the maximum temperature change (δTmax) that the pendulum can tolerate whilst remaining accurate to 1 second in a day.
